Luxury Safaris in Ethiopia
"Cultural riches, spectacular scenery, legendary grace and genuine hospitality..." - Country Life
Ethiopia is a friendly country of contrasting landscapes and of absorbing cultural interest. The north is a treasure of historical capitals where religious customs from the Middle Ages continue to thrive - the Queen of Sheba's Axum, Lalibela with its 13th century rock-hewn churches, and Gondar, capital in the 17th and 18th centuries. In this area too is Lake Tana, whose island monasteries have existed for hundreds of years. It is the source of the Blue Nile, which curls its way over the nearby Tissisat Falls and all the way through to the White Nile at Khartoum.
Treks into the Simien Mountains, nicknamed God's chess set for their weather eroded shapes, explore the habitat of the gelada baboon. The Bale Mountains, to the south, are home to the endangered Ethiopian wolf.
South of Addis Ababa, the Rift Valley is punctuated with a series of lakes (some bordered pink with thousands of flamingo), and descends to Kenya via territories of tribes whose way of life has not changed for centuries.
"Thank you for setting up such a great trip in such a short time. I literally put down the phone, printed out the email, turned off the computer and walked out the door! Then everything just fell into place." - Fred Richmond
