Luxury Safaris in Madagascar
Madagascar is unique. From the vast and diverse mainland to the peace and tranquility of the islands, it has unparalleled quality of diving, an intriguing cultural history and those extraordinary looking lemurs, so it holds its appeal to the more intrepid.
Officially the country shares one language and culture. There are in fact eighteen tribes with territorial divisions based on old kingdoms rather than ethnic differences. Most Malagasy are of dual Indonesian and African origin and the Malagasy language has its roots in the ancient Malayo-Polynesian tongue.
It is the world's fourth largest island and 95% of Madagascar's flora and fauna is found nowhere else. The terrain varies from rain forest to desert, high plateau to tropical island and the climate is tropical along the coast, temperate inland and arid in the south of the island.
The largest species of lemur, the Indri Indri, is found in the Perinet Reserve to the east while Ring-tailed lemurs inhabit Berenty Reserve in the south-east of the island.
Amongst our favourite beach and diving destinations are islands like Tsarabanjina off Nosy Be in the north and Ile Saint Marie to the east, a Robinson Crusoe Island, lined with palm fringed beaches and secluded coves.
