Mozambique is Southern Africa's hot new beach destination and provides a wonderful add-on to a safari in any of the adjoining countries. There are easy connecting flights from the safari heartlands through to Mozambique so one can journey (on the whole effortlessly) from bush to beach.
The Portuguese influence is still apparent on the mainland and the capital, Maputo, has many places of historical and cultural interest to explore, as well as restaurants specialising in seafood for which Mozambique is famous.
The prime attraction remains the islands off the coast. The Bazaruto Archipelago, with its long sandy white beaches, clear turquoise seas and spectacular coral reef is one of the largest national parks in the Indian Ocean. When diving or snorkelling you may see manta rays and dugongs, and even have the chance to swim with dolphins.
